Free Patreon Fee Calculator

Last updated: 2026-10-23

Quick answer: Patreon changed its pricing on August 4, 2025, and every fee guide written before that date is now wrong for new creators. Anyone who published a creator page after that date pays a single 10% platform fee; creators who published before it keep legacy rates of 5% (Lite), 8% (Pro) or 12% (Premium) — and unpublishing a legacy page lands you on the 10% plan when you republish. On top of the platform fee sits 2.9% + $0.30 payment processing on every pledge, a 2.5% currency-conversion fee when a patron pays in another currency, a payout fee ($0.25 per US direct deposit, or 1% via PayPal, min $0.25, capped at $20), and — from November 1, 2026 — Apple's 30% fee on subscriptions bought inside the iOS app (dropping to 15% after a year of continuous billing). This free Patreon fee calculator models all of it: enter up to three membership tiers (patrons and price each), pick your plan, billing period, iOS share and payout method, and it returns a per-tier breakdown, your monthly or annual net, the web-only comparison that shows exactly what iOS costs you, and the annual-billing saving from collapsing twelve charges into one. Everything runs in your browser; your numbers never leave your device.

Tier 2
Tier 3

Rates for US creators, USD payout, 2026: new plan 10%; legacy Lite 5%, Pro 8%, Premium 12% (pages published on or before August 4, 2025 — unpublishing a legacy page moves you to the 10% plan on republish); processing 2.9% + $0.30 per pledge on web/Android (Apple's fee replaces processing on iOS-app purchases, platform fee still applies); iOS fee 30% from November 1, 2026, 15% after a year of continuous billing; currency conversion 2.5%; payout US direct deposit $0.25, PayPal 1% (min $0.25, cap $20, $10 minimum payout). Worked checks: 100 patrons at $5/month on the new plan = $500 gross, $50 platform, $44.50 processing, $405.50 before the payout fee (18.9% effective); a $1 pledge keeps $0.57 before the payout fee; 100 patrons at $5 on annual billing pay $204 a year in processing versus $534 monthly — a $330 saving. Non-USD processing (3% to 3.9% + local flat fee), non-US PayPal/Venmo (3.9% + $0.30), one-time digital-product sales and refunds are not modelled. Per-pledge figures quoted in the copy exclude the per-payout fee, which the calculator applies once per payout. Verify rates on Patreon's creator-fees page before changing tiers.

How to Use the Patreon Fee Calculator

  1. Enter your membership tiers: how many patrons at each price. Three tiers cover most creators (a $3 entry tier, a $5 core tier, a $10 premium tier is the classic shape); leave a tier at 0 patrons to ignore it. Processing is charged per pledge, so the patron count matters as much as the prices — 100 patrons at $5 cost $30 in fixed processing, while 10 patrons at $50 cost $3.
  2. Pick your plan: New (10%) if your page was published after August 4, 2025, or your legacy tier (Lite 5%, Pro 8%, Premium 12%) if it was published before. The legacy-vs-new split is the whole story of the August 2025 change — the calculator keeps the two unmistakable by labelling every legacy option with its date cutoff.
  3. Choose billing: monthly or annual. Annual billing collapses twelve monthly charges into one annual charge per patron, so the $0.30 fixed processing fee is paid once a year instead of twelve times — the single biggest lever on processing cost, shown as its own savings line.
  4. Set your iOS share — the percentage of patrons who subscribe inside the Patreon iOS app — and the iOS fee rate (30% in the first year, 15% after a year of continuous billing). Apple's fee replaces Patreon's payment processing on iOS-app purchases, but the platform fee still applies, so iOS pledges are charged Apple + platform, not Apple + platform + processing.
  5. Tick currency conversion (2.5%) only if a meaningful share of patrons pay in a currency other than your payout currency, and pick your payout method (US direct deposit $0.25 per payout, or PayPal 1% with a $0.25 minimum and $20 cap). Click Calculate Patreon fees and read the per-tier table first, then the totals, then the web-only comparison.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Patreon's fee for new creators in 2026?
A single 10% platform fee on all membership payments, plus 2.9% + $0.30 payment processing per pledge (US cards, USD payout), plus a 2.5% currency-conversion fee when a patron pays in another currency, plus a payout fee ($0.25 per US direct deposit or 1% via PayPal, min $0.25, capped at $20). All-in on a $5 monthly pledge: $0.50 platform + $0.445 processing = $0.945, so you keep $4.06 (81.1%) before the payout fee. The 10% plan applies to any creator page published after August 4, 2025.
What are the legacy Patreon plans, and do I keep mine?
Lite 5%, Pro 8% and Premium ~12% (12% in Patreon's current tables). They apply only to pages published on or before August 4, 2025. Unpublish a legacy page and you land on the 10% plan when you republish — so a Lite creator at 5% who unpublishes effectively doubles their platform fee. The one exception that cuts the other way: a Premium creator at 12% who republishes would drop to 10%. Check your own Earnings dashboard rather than trusting a guide's date, and never unpublish a legacy page without doing this math first.
How much does Apple take on iOS subscriptions?
30% of the subscription price for purchases inside the Patreon iOS app from November 1, 2026, dropping to 15% after a year of continuous billing. Apple's fee replaces Patreon's payment processing on those purchases — you pay Apple + the platform fee, not Apple + platform + processing — so a $5 iOS pledge on the new plan keeps $3.00 (60%), versus $4.06 on the web. Creators can also direct patrons to subscribe on the web, which is why the calculator's web-only comparison line exists: it prices the choice you can actually offer patrons.
Why do small tiers lose so much to fees?
The $0.30 fixed processing fee. On a $1 pledge, processing alone is $0.329 (32.9%), plus the 10% platform fee, so you keep $0.57 before the payout fee — 57 cents on the dollar. On a $5 pledge you keep $4.06 (81.1%) before the payout fee; on a $50 pledge you keep $43.25 (86.5%) before the payout fee. The fix is structural, not volume: raise the entry tier, or move small supporters to annual billing, where the $0.30 is paid once a year instead of twelve times.
Monthly or annual billing — how much does it actually save?
Only the fixed processing fee, but it compounds. 100 patrons at $5 on monthly billing pay $30 a month in fixed fees, $360 a year; on annual billing they pay $30 once. Total processing falls from $534 a year to $204 — a $330 saving on $6,000 of annual pledges, before any discount you offer for annual commitment. The percentage processing (2.9%) is identical either way; the saving is purely the eleven $0.30 charges you skip per patron per year.
What does this calculator not include?
Non-USD processing rates (3% to 3.9% + a local flat fee for EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD and others — the calculator models USD card rates), PayPal/Venmo processing for non-US patrons (3.9% + $0.30), one-time digital-product sales (5% on the oldest accounts, otherwise 5–12% by plan), refunds and chargebacks, income tax (Patreon's 1099-K reports gross, not net — platform and processing cuts are deductible business expenses), and the 5-day hold when a payout method is added or changed. Treat the result as the standard USD web/iOS case and check Patreon's creator-fees page for your currency.
